Plastic Surgeon

About

I am a South African trained, certified and registered plastic surgeon. I graduated my undergraduate medical degree of MBChB with first class honours from the University of Cape Town Medical School, and received prizes for academic achievement in Surgery (1988), and was the top final year student in Paediatrics (1989).

After completing my internship at Groote Schuur Hospital (venue of the first heart transplant), I travelled abroad, doing locum work in the UK for a period, before joining P&O/ Princess Cruises as ships doctor aboard luxury liners. On returning to Cape Town, I commenced training in general surgery at Groote Schuur Hospital, ultimately moving over to specialize in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, and completing a 4 year dedicated training programme. After passing my Specialist Board Examination in Plastic Surgery, I remained on as consultant plastic surgeon at Groote Schuur Hospital, before moving into private practice at City Park Hospital (since renamed the Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital) – a large private hospital in the central business district of Cape Town.
